Occupational therapists and counselors in other disciplines will benefit from the use of the Self-Discovery Tapestry thanks to its structure that encourages disclosure of information in a non-threatening manner and in a brief amount time. Few existing life assessment instruments elicit life-review information nonverbally or in color nor allow clients to analyze their own life histories.
This instrument allows both clients and therapists to perceive elements of continuity, discontinuity, and changes in clients’ lives. Patterns of adapting to new situations can be discussed and analyzed. Therapists have a concrete basis upon which to formulate meaningful client-based therapeutic goals.
