About the Self Discovery Tapestry

Philosophy

The Self-Discovery Tapestry creates opportunities for therapists and clients to acknowledge and review the client’s life.  The Tapestry invites individuals, as though they were using yarn, to “weave” their lives with colored pens, disclosing continuous behaviors, critical events, and future goals. Space to list their important events, work histories, and special interests is provided.

The Tapestry incorporates life span theories and is an outgrowth of the principles of occupational science (Zemke & Clark, 1996;). It encourages individuals to identify meaningful segments of their lives by indicating elements of past and wished-for continuity as well as important events as they seek the realization of their “authentic selves.”
